PRO-HOUSING COMMUNITY

The Village of Sherman is determined to be part of the solution in remedying the housing shortage in Chautauqua County by taking initiatives like adopting the

Fair Housing Policy (Updated RES 2021-09-08.6) and Pro-Housing Pledge (RES 2024-05-08.21).

The Village of Sherman became a certified Pro-Housing Community on 2024-10-17.

In 2021 the Village of Sherman was awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) of $488,250, administered through the NY State Office of Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR), for Single Family Dwelling Rehabilitation to repair 8 homes in the village. In 2024 the Village was awarded a second CDBG Single Family Dwelling Rehabilitation grant of $493,000 and $430,000 for the Mobile and Manufactured Home Replacement (MMHR) Program.  Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corp (CHRIC) has applied for the NY HOME grant and other programs to further assist in the administration of these programs… bringing the total of newly awarded funding for Village housing to nearly $1M; and within the last three years to over $1,456,250 for residents of the      Village of Sherman. â€‹â€‹â€‹
